Timings for the Sandman weekend

It usually takes one day to set up the event village which will be built in National Resources Wales (NRW) Beach car park.

Athletes and staff will start arriving early on both Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday there will be:

  • Super Sprint Triathlon
  • Sprint Triathlon and Duathlon
  • Torchlight Trail run and CaniCross

On Sunday there will be:

  • Standard Triathlon and Duathlon
  • Legend Triathlon

The event village is likely to close at approximately 21:30 on Saturday and 19:00 on Sunday.

Event specific timings will be detailed in the Final Instructions available on the website 10 days prior to the race.

Road Closures

In order to give competitors and spectators the best and safest experience, we will be requesting permission to close roads and implement traffic management as detailed below:

  • road closure on the main access road to the beach, accessed from Church Street through Newborough Forest. This will be closed for a portion of each race day. Church street will remain open for local access.
  • parking restrictions on Chapel Street between the B4421 and the bus stop down below the chip shop.
  • traffic management on Newborough crossroad that leads to the beach.

Traeth Llanddwyn will remain open to the public however there will be no vehicle access through the toll booth for the duration of the road closure.

N.B these restrictions will not be in place for the evening Torchlight Trail event.

We will be conducting a letter drop to all affected residents prior to the event date. A copy of that letter will then also be available here.

Car Parking

There will be no public access to the NRW Beach, Airman's, Cwningar and the locals car parks until the end of the road closure.

Event parking will be located in NRW Beach, Airman's and Cwningar car parks.

Spectating

Spectators are welcome at our events, to cheer on everyone taking part! We pride ourselves on an exciting and positive atmosphere at all of our events, and we would love you to come along to add to the warm Welsh welcome that our local communities offer.

Our event village sits alongside transition and is a beautiful location where the whole family can enjoy all the race action along with live commentary, and local hot and cold food and drinks sellers.

Getting Involved

We are always on the lookout for people to join our awesome team of Marshals and Volunteers and it is a great way to raise funds for your local community group or charity. If you are a local business and have offers over the event weekend please contact us so we can include you in our communications with our athletes. There are also opportunities for stands in our event village.

Signage and Litter

All our signage is removed immediately after the event and we conduct a full litter pick as stated in our environmental policy. We will respond to any reports of left signage or litter immediately so in the unlikely event of this please contact us.
