Snowman 2022 Triathlon Super-Sprint

30 Jul 2022

Plas y Brenin, Snowdonia

Route Description

Begin with a swim in the freshwaters of Llyn Mymbyr under the watchful eye of Snowdon. Exit the water and cross the wooden foot bridge for the first time in to transition.

Turning left out of Plas y Brenin, the Super Sprint bike section climbs steadily up the Nant-y-Gwryd valley to reach the turn around point outside the famous Pen y Gwryd Hotel, where Hilary and Tenzing trained to take on Mount Everest. Taking in the spectacular views of Moel Siabod and the Glyders is well worth it on the way up, for as soon as you make that turning point it’ll be one quick ride back down to transition.

Running shoes on, head back over the bridge. There is a reason that the Snowman Triathlon regularly gets called the toughest multi terrain triathlon in the UK and that’s because the run includes a mountain, Moel Siabod which at 872 metres, is the highest peak in the Moelwynion mountain range. Super Sprint athletes don't need to reach the summit but rather keep to the forest on it’s lower slopes. A short, sharp, yet tough climb up through the trees before you can start to stride out on the fire road to bring you round towards the lake. The finish line framing Wales' most famous peak Snowdon awaits.
