2019 Ride Report
Tour de Mon Tour de Force
This Sunday over 1000 cyclists descended on Anglesey for the latest instalment of the Tour de Mon cycle sportive
The weather at the start line was ideal for cycling with minimal wind and beautiful blue skies. Conditions out on the course were challenging with headwinds and side winds, but the rain stayed away.
Each of the three routes - the Mawr, Canol and Bach - saw riders experience some of the most picturesque country and coastal roads in the UK. Always Aim High’s famous marshals and feed stations were on hand the whole time as riders passed through the likes of Trearddur Bay, Beaumaris, Moelfre and Menai Bridge.
The 2019 Tour de Mon returned to the airfield at RAF Valley with the hugely popular ‘Flying Mile’, sponsored by Kingud Biodegradable Bike Cleaning products. All of the riders were given the chance to pit themselves against the clock on the mile-long timed section along the runway at the home of the world-famous Red Arrows.
The fastest times over the Kingud ‘Flying Mile’ were Naomi Wright for the women with a time of 00:02:37, and Robert Flack for the men with a time of 00:02:18
Always Aim High Director, Tim Lloyd said: “The Tour de Mon really is a favourite with our participants and it’s definitely one of ours. It’s great to see such a wide range of cyclists coming to Anglesey to take on such a beautiful ride.
“The undulating course, challenging headwinds didn’t stop our participants having an amazing time. The views were incredible as always, just like the atmosphere at the event village and overwhelming support from the local community on the course. The Tour de Môn is definitely the jewel in the crown of Welsh cycle sportives.”
“As always, our marshals and volunteers make our events what they are and we’d like to thank them all for sparing their time. We’d also like to thank RAF Valley for the use of the Airfield, and the for the volunteers for giving their time to help out at the Flying Mile, the sportive partners and Anglesey County Council for making the event possible.”
