Postponements to our Llanberis based 2021 events

Published: 30.03.2021

After much deliberation and with a very heavy heart we are announcing further postponements to our 2021 event calendar.

Following England’s roadmap to recovery which was published a few weeks ago, there has been a natural optimism in Wales. However, it is clear that the Welsh Government will continue with their current approach of unlocking the country with caution, so that in the long run, sectors can reopen with a higher degree of confidence. What this means in practice is the continuation of reviewing covid measures every 3 weeks using scientific data, with alert levels decreasing one level at a time.

Unfortunately for those of us in the event sector it does mean that we currently have no clear indication of when restrictions will be eased enough for outdoor sporting events such as ours to return. Given that our events are usually many months in the making, it has become extremely difficult for us to prepare within the current timeframes. Whilst we completely support the views of the Welsh Government on the safe return of events, it does put us in an impossible situation in terms of preparing for the next few months. We are also very aware of the uncertainties this creates for our amazing participants as well as the communities who welcome us year after year.

We have been in constant discussions with Gwynedd council and the local community of Llanberis, and as an integral part of that community we must be respectful of their concerns and wishes.

Sadly, right now that means we have no other choice but to postpone the following Gwynedd based events until 2022;

  • Sport Pursuit Slateman Triathlon, Duathlon & Swim
  • Quarryman
  • Snowdon24
  • XTERRA Snowdonia Trail Marathon

The postponement of all of these events will be a huge disappointment to everyone who has entered. This is equally shared by the team here at Always Aim High as well as everyone else who is involved in our events, from our charity partners, sponsors and volunteers, to the local communities whose livelihoods depend on a vibrant visitor economy.

Over the past 12 months, writing postponement messages has become all too familiar for us, rest assured it never gets any easier. We feel extremely lucky for the support we have had throughout this pandemic and the love for our events has been proven through the kindness of our participants, who have stayed with us since our first deferrals back in 2020. For what we’re hoping will be the final time, we need to ask for that support to continue whilst we try to find our way through this event season.

An email has been sent out to all of our participants which includes the proposed new dates for 2022. If you haven’t received an email you can contact us on info@alwaysaimhighevents.com

We cant wait to bring these events back in 2022, bigger and better than ever!
