New Charity Patrtnership with Alder Hey Children's Charity for 2025
Alder Hey Children's Hospital cares for 450,000 babies, children, and young people every year, including over 3257 brave children from North Wales who needed expert care last year.
Many of us know a family or have family that has been supported by Alder Hey, including our athletes, marshals and staff team and we're honoured to have them join us at three of our favourite events next year.
Add an extra motivation to your 2025 challenge by fundraising for Alder Hey Children's Charity while you run or ride.
Money raised helps create brighter, healthier, and fairer futures for children and also ensures that every child experiences what is called the ‘Alder Hey Magic’ – those little added extras that make the hospital experience the best it can be during a young person’s stay.

THEO'S STORY
Theo was born prematurely at 27 weeks gestation at Wrexham Maelor Hospital in July 2022. Theo was subsequently diagnosed with sepsis and started deteriorating very quickly. He was moved to the intensive care unit and put on a Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machine, which eased his difficulties breathing. Theo was then found to have two inguinal hernias that needed to be operated on. He was transferred to Alder Hey a few days later for an operation to fix his hernia, followed by a second operation after a few weeks. Theo needed to be transferred to Alder Hey as these operations can only be done in a specialised children’s hospital with full paediatric surgery facilities such as Alder Hey. His second operation at Alder Hey was successful and Theo was discharged just one day later making a full recovery and was able to go back home to his family in Wrexham.
TONY'S STORY
I entered the Anglesey Half Marathon to finish my fundraising challenge for Alder Hey Children's Hospital, who were amazing when my daughter was there getting chemotherapy.
My challenge was the 4x4x48 where you run 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours straight. I decided then to come straight to the half and run that.
We set off and I knew I was in trouble straight away, having already run 48 miles. At the four mile point I stopped and was seriously considering quitting, but I kept thinking of why I was doing the challenge. The support from fellow runners was superb and helped me carry on.
As I turned the corner into the finish there were huge cheers from the Amlwch Arrows who had secretly stayed behind to watch me finish. It was really emotional crossing the line, thinking of everyone and the reason why we were doing this.
It was at that point when we all high fived and hugged and congratulated each other that we realised how much running and being part of a group and team means. It was without doubt my best running memory.
CLAIRE'S STORY
Many of you know Claire. She's the Head of Operations at Always Aim High Events and you'll have seen her at all our events over the last 5 years.
In 2020 (when the event world was sleeping due to Covid) her daughter Erin was born prematurely at just 24 weeks. She was on a ventilator in neo-natal intensive care for 10 weeks before being transferred to Alder Hey Children's Hospital for life saving heart surgery.
Erin's surgery was a success and a week after she was off the ventilator and able to be transferred to a hospital in North Wales where Claire could share her time between the hospital and her young daughter at home.
Now nearly 4 years old, Erin still visits Alder Hey to make sure her lungs are mending but thanks to the amazing care she received she's doing really well - in 2024 she completed her first Tour de Môn Teulu!
