About Us

What began as a hobby between two friends, with years of experience in sport and event organisation, soon grew into something much bigger. Inspired by enthusiasm from within our own community, Tim Lloyd and Nigel ‘Kenny’ Kendrick launched Always Aim High Events in 2011 with the Slateman and Sandman Triathlons: one in Tim's home village of Llanberis, and the other in Kenny’s home in Newborough.

After travelling the world with the Saab Salomon team and experiencing extraordinary events overseas, Tim & Kenny felt there was nothing quite like them here in the UK. People kept asking them to “put on something different”, and eventually they decided to take the leap. They took the risk, and gave it a go.

From day one, our principles were simple and non-negotiable. Our events would be customer-led. They would support local businesses by buying local, showcase the spectacular landscapes of North Wales, and give back directly to the communities that host us. To date, more than £260,000 has been donated to local charities and groups as a direct result of our events. These values shaped our early decisions and continue to define everything we do.

Over the last 15 years, we have created hundreds of events enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of participants. We have taken risks, tried new ideas, built new races, and grown a tight-knit team that shares our passion and commitment. Despite our growth, we’ve always stayed true to what matters most: listening to our community, responding to our participants, and delivering small, unique and beautiful races in the heart of North Wales.

In 2025, as founders, Tim & Kenny made the decision to retire, and Always Aim High Events became part of the Run 4 Wales family. The transition ensures the long-term future of the events we love, while keeping the company firmly rooted in Wales. As a not-for-profit organisation, we continue to operate with the same community-focused ethos we began with; protecting local jobs, supporting the regional economy, and delivering unforgettable experiences in the stunning places we’re proud to call home.

Who knows what the future holds? There may be bumps along the way (hopefully none as big as a global pandemic), but together—with our team, our friends at Run 4 Wales, and the incredible Always Aim High community it looks exciting, different and, as ever, beautiful.
