Trail Running Events halted due to extreme weather conditions
Event organisers Always Aim High Events and XTERRA made a decision to halt all trail running races at 12:25PM on Saturday 12 July due to extreme weather conditions.
Races began from 6:30 AM and included the 10K, Half Marathon, Marathon, Ultra Marathon, Yr Wyddfa | Snowdon24, and the XTERRA Trail Run World Championship.
The safety of all participants, volunteers and race support staff is the number one priority for the event organisers and the decision was taken following consultation with the incident management and health and safety teams. While many runners in the 10K and Half Marathon successfully completed their races, a decision was made at 12:25 PM to halt all remaining events.
All major stakeholders were promptly informed, and participants were supported in making a safe descent and return to the event village, where welfare checks and final confirmations were conducted.
Extreme weather protocols were implemented following a review by the event’s Medical Director the day before the race. In addition, detailed safety briefings were delivered to all competitors prior to the start of the events.
The course has now been thoroughly swept by the mountain safety team.
Matt Newman, Chief Executive of Always Aim High Events, said:
"We would like to thank all participants and our incredible event support team for their patience, resilience, and understanding. Having delivered this race in Llanberis for the past ten years, we are deeply saddened to have had to halt the event.
"The safety of our participants has always been our top priority, and we made the decision to halt the races to ensure everyone was brought down from the mountain safely."
Am 12:25pm dydd Sadwrn, Gorffennaf 12fed, gwnaethwyd y penderfyniad gan gwmniau digwyddiadau Camu i’r Copa ac XTERRA i orffen pob ras yn fuan oherwydd y tywydd eithafol o boeth.
Dechreuodd y rasys o 6:30 AM ymlaen, yn cynnwys ras10K, Hanner Marathon, Marathon, Marathon Ultra, a’r Wyddfa 24 a Pencampwriaeth Rhedeg Llwybrau y Byd XTERRA Trail Run.
Diogelwch yr holl gyfranogwyr, gwirfoddolwyr a staff yw'r brif flaenoriaeth i’r trefnwyr a gwnaethwyd y penderfyniad yn dilyn ymgynghori â'r timau rheoli digwyddiadau a tîm iechyd a diogelwch. Er bod llawer o redwyr yn y 10K a Hanner Marathon wedi cwblhau eu rasys yn llwyddiannus, gwnaed penderfyniad am 12:25 PM i atal yr holl ddigwyddiadau oedd weddill.
Cafodd yr holl brif randdeiliaid eu hysbysu'n brydlon, a cefnogwyd y rhedwyr i ddychwelyd yn ddiogel yn ôl i’r pentref, lle cynhaliwyd asesiadau llês ynghyd a’r trefniadau amseru terfynol.
Y diwrnod cyn y ras, cafodd camau ychwanegol yn sgil tywydd eithafol eu gweithredu yn dilyn adolygiad gan Gyfarwyddwr Meddygol y digwyddiad. Yn ogystal, cafodd pob rhedwyr ymhob ras, eu briffio yn fanwl am ddiogelwch y cystadleuwyr.
Mae pob rhedwyr bellach oddi-ar y cwrs, wedi eu cefnogi gan y tîm diogelwch mynydd.
Dywed Matt Newman, Prif Weithredwr Always Aim High Events:
"Hoffem ddiolch i'r holl gyfranogwyr a'n tîm cymorth digwyddiadau anhygoel am eu hamynedd, gwytnwch a dealltwriaeth. Ar ôl cynnal y ras hon yn Llanberis am y deng mlynedd diwethaf, rydym yn drist iawn ein bod wedi gorfod atal y digwyddiad.
"Mae diogelwch ein cyfranogwyr bob amser wedi bod yn brif flaenoriaeth i ni, a gwnaethom y penderfyniad i atal y rasys i sicrhau bod pawb yn cael eu arwain i lawr o'r mynydd yn ddiogel."
