Velindre Cancer Centre Celebrates £20,000 Milestone with the Cardiff Triathlon!
A partnership between the Cardiff Triathlon and Velindre Cancer Centre has reached an impressive milestone this week, with the charity announcing that over £20,000 has now been raised for the Centre since the first race in 2015.
Velindre Cancer Centre has been the official charity of the Cardiff Triathlon since its inception and seen the partnership grow continuously with the triathlon throughout those three years.
Michael Locke, Fundraiser for Velindre said of the milestone: “The sponsorship amount raised since the collaboration between ourselves and the Cardiff Triathlon in 2015 has now surpassed the £20,000 mark and counting!”
“Our patients have benefited massively thanks to the money raised by the participants that wouldn’t have been possible without the free places given to Velindre in those three years, and we’d like to say a huge thank you to the race organisers, Always Aim High Events for their continued support.”
Tim Lloyd, Director at Always Aim High Events said: “Working in support of local charities has become a trademark for us at Always Aim High, we consider this to be a very important element of our events. The team at Velindre have been an absolute pleasure to work with, and knowing that our partnership has resulted in much needed funds being raised is a fantastic reflection of all the hard work done by our team at Always Aim High and the amazing guys at Velindre.”
“We would wish their fundraisers the very best of luck in the 2017 Cardiff Triathlon and we look forward to continuing our support for many years to come.”
Velindre Cancer Centre provides specialist cancer services to over 1.5 million people in South East Wales and beyond. They are one of the largest cancer centres in the UK, each year over 5,000 new referrals and around 50,000 new outpatient appointments are seen by them.
Velindre Cancer Centre have now sold out all of their charity places for the 2017 Cardiff Triathlon, with the event in general likely to sell out in the next few days.
The 2017 Cardiff Triathlon is bigger than ever before and as well the Olympic and Sprint distance events, will see a British Triathlon Elite race which will offer £10,000 (one of the largest independent prize purses in UK triathlon)
All the race action will be shown live on S4C, with a jumbo screen showing all the action at the event village on Roald Dahl Plass. Highlights will appear on Sky Sports, EuroSport and others shortly after the race.
