What to Expect at the 2017 Anglesey Half Marathon...

Published: 20.02.2017

The 2017 Jones Crisps Anglesey Half Marathon & 10k is almost here, and we think it’s one of the best and most beautiful races available anywhere in the UK.

Taking place on Sunday 5th March, the race starts and finishes in the picturesque coastal town of Menai Bridge on Anglesey. Here are just a few of the many things you can expect on race day…

A very special pace vehicle...

This years pace vehicle will be a very impressive looking Massey Ferguson tractor! The tractor will lead the pack along 95% of the course before parking up to welcome the rest of the runners. How many races can claim to have a lead vehicle like this?

THAT start line.

As ever, the Anglesey Half Marathon & 10k will feature perhaps the most beautiful start line anywhere in the world. The Half, 10k and Dragon’s Dash will all begin on the famous (and closed road) Menai Suspension bridge - this is a completely unique opportunity to run across such an iconic landmark.

The Dragon’s Dash powered by RibRide

Returning for 2017 is the hugely popular Dragon’s Dash junior race. This race is open to any young person between the ages of 5 and 15, beginning on the Menai Suspension bridge and finishing up in the centre of Menai Bridge town. Over 300 young people took part in this race in 2016, with that number looking set to be repeated this year!

A new course record?

The Anglesey Half Marathon is already regarded as having a very fast course, but this year the competition amongst the lead runners will hot up even further. Alun Vaughan will return to try and bag his fourth win (and third in a row) against the toughest lead pack in recent years. This all points to a potential record breaking course time being set in 2017.

A brand new (and sold out 10k)

The all-new 10k distance was opened on the January 1st, and swiftly sold out in days - but this just means there will be more runners than ever to be cheer along the course!

The famous Anglesey Half atmosphere

With the Anglesey Half Marathon comes that famous friendly atmosphere of the event. If you’re not taking part this year, then come along anyway and take in the fun and lively event village in the centre of Menai Bridge, and cheer on the runners as they cross the finish line.

Online entries for the 2017 Jones Crisps Anglesey Half Marathon close at midnight on Wednesday 1st March, with strictly limited entries available at registration on race day.
