2026 Race Report

Perfect Conditions for the 2026 Anglesey Trail Half Marathon & 10K

Runners were treated to near-perfect autumn conditions at the 2026 Anglesey Trail Half Marathon & 10K, as hundreds took to the spectacular trails of Newborough Forest and Traeth Llanddwyn.

A notoriously exposed corner of Ynys Môn was almost unrecognisable, with barely a breath of wind throughout the morning. Calm conditions, clear views, and crisp autumn trails provided a stunning backdrop, with runners able to look across the water towards Yr Eifl and the mountains of Eryri as they made their way around one of the most scenic trail races in Wales.

With 474 runners recorded across the two races, there was plenty of competition at the front of both fields, alongside hundreds more taking on the challenge at their own pace.

Half Marathon

Steffan Sayer produced a superb run to take a commanding victory in the Half Marathon. Sayer crossed the line in 1:20:59, finishing almost seven minutes clear of second-placed Hugo Chaloner, who recorded 1:27:49. Graham Bale completed the men's podium in 1:29:43, an impressive performance which also saw him win the MV60 category.

The women's race was led home by Janine Mcgregor Stead, who finished 23rd overall in an excellent 1:42:47. Rebecca Bevan followed less than a minute later to take second place in 1:43:46, before Claire Donnelly completed the women's podium with 1:45:34.

Those at the sharp end made the course look fast, but the Anglesey Trail Half Marathon remains a genuine trail challenge. The route combines Newborough's winding forest tracks with sandy sections, undulating trails and the spectacular coastal landscape around Llanddwyn, making it a very different proposition to a conventional road half marathon.

10K

There was another strong performance at the front of the 10K as Frazer Slade took overall victory in 42:35. Huw Owen pushed hard behind him, finishing second in 43:02, with Thomas Klenerman completing the men's top three in 43:39.

The women's race saw Eleanor Ashcroft of Denbigh Harriers run an excellent 46:02 to finish fifth overall and take a clear victory. Catrin Donnelly was second woman home in 48:16, while Molly Vasanthakumar completed the podium in 50:02.

The shorter distance once again proved that the 10K is every bit as much a part of the event as the Half Marathon. Fast runners battled for positions at the front while, throughout the field, participants had the chance to experience the forest, coast and views that make this corner of Anglesey such a special place to run.

A Special Day at Newborough

Conditions could hardly have been better. With next to no wind, good visibility and beautiful views towards Yr Eifl and Eryri, runners were able to enjoy Newborough and Llanddwyn at their very best.

From the first finishers racing beneath the hour in the 10K and towards the 80-minute mark in the Half Marathon, through to those completing their own personal challenge later in the day, the atmosphere remained fantastic throughout.

A huge congratulations goes to every runner who crossed the finish line, and a massive thank you to the marshals, volunteers, event team and everyone who helped make the 2026 Anglesey Trail Half Marathon & 10K possible.

We hope everyone who joined us took home some brilliant memories from a very special day on Ynys Môn.

Claire Stones, Head of Operations at Always Aim High Events, said:

“Wow, what a way to round off our 2026 event season! We really couldn't have asked for better conditions for this year's Anglesey Trail Half Marathon & 10K. Newborough Forest and Traeth Llanddwyn were looking absolutely spectacular, with barely a breath of wind and incredible views across to Yr Eifl and the mountains of Eryri. It's not often we get such calm conditions on this part of the Anglesey coastline, and it made for a truly memorable day of trail running.”

“We're delighted that the event sold out once again, with runners travelling from across the UK to experience the beauty of Anglesey and the unique challenge of Newborough Forest. It was fantastic to see so many smiling faces crossing the finish line, from those battling for podium positions to runners completing their own personal challenges. Events like this also make a real difference to the local area during the quieter autumn months, and we're incredibly proud to help showcase this beautiful corner of North Wales.”

“Our sincere thanks go to Natural Resources Wales for once again granting us permission to use the stunning Newborough Forest. It's a privilege to stage an event in such a special natural environment, and one we never take for granted. We'd also like to say a huge thank you to our fantastic marshals, volunteers and event team, whose enthusiasm and dedication make days like this possible.”

“After another busy season of events across North Wales, it was wonderful to finish the year on such a positive note. We'd like to thank everyone who has raced, volunteered, supported or cheered us on throughout 2026. We couldn't do it without you, and we're already looking forward to welcoming everyone back for more adventures in 2027!”
