Published: 05.10.2017

Always Aim High Events and Velindre Cancer Centre are delighted to announce a continuation of their hugely successful partnership which sees Velindre become the official charity partner of the iconic Cardiff Triathlon for a fourth year.

The partnership between the Cardiff Triathlon and Velindre has gone from strength to strength in since the first race in 2015, with all signs pointing to a record breaking year in 2018.

Michael Locke, Fundraiser at Velindre said: “Since our charitable partnership started in 2015, the Cardiff Triathlon has generated over £30,000 for cancer patients at Velindre. We are extremely grateful to now be chosen as the official charity for the 4th consecutive year and look forward to our incredible supporters taking part in this wonderfully organized event again.”

Tim Lloyd, Director at Always Aim High Events, organisers of the Cardiff Triathlon said: ”We are so happy to continue our support of Velindre at the Cardiff Triathlon 2018. The work that is done at Velindre is incredible and has touched so many people on a personal level, it is an absolute pleasure to be able to feed something back in the way that we do”.

“Exciting news around the Cardiff Triathlon will be announced shortly and we hope that more and more triathletes will get involved in this amazing capital city event and support the wonderful Velindre fundraising team”.

The 2018 edition of the Cardiff Triathlon promises to the biggest yet - as well as the Super Sprint, Sprint and Olympic distance races, the triathlon has also been granted ITU Sprint Age Group Qualifier 2018/2019 status, bringing a whole new element of draft legal action to the weekend!

Velindre is Wales’ premier Cancer Centre, providing care, support and treatment to cancer patients and their families for over 60 years. Velindre is the major provider of radiotherapy and other specialised anti-cancer treatments in Wales. Access to radiotherapy is critical to improving patient outcomes for cancer.

We all know of family, friends and loved ones who have been touched by cancer. The incidence of cancer is rising by 2% each year in Wales with nearly 20,000 people diagnosed with this illness each year, and by 2020 one in two of us will develop cancer and 150,000 people will be living with a current or previous diagnosis of this disease.

However as Velindre staff strive every day to deliver the best cancer services through exceptional care, more people than ever are living with cancer – survival rates have doubled in the last 40 years through better treatments and earlier detection.
