Fresh Venue, Fresh Wind: Jones O Gymru Anglesey Half Marathon & 10K Celebrates a New Chapter

Clear, dry conditions, yet overcast skies and blustery conditions set the scene, as more than 1,600 runners assembled for this iconic event, held this year on Dydd Gwyl Dewi, or St David's Day, celebrating the patron saint of Wales.

Featuring a diverse field of participants, from newcomers to experienced athletes and junior runners in the Dragon’s Dash, the race celebrated the camaraderie at the heart of the UK running scene. A new course and venue, alongside a full road closure for the half-marathon, made this year’s event particularly memorable.

The action got underway at 9:00am with the Jones o Gymru Anglesey Half Marathon, as nearly 800 eager runners lined up at the new venue, anticipation etched across their faces. At 9:30am, the 10K race followed, with the Dragon’s Dash getting underway shortly after at 9:40am; all were greeted with equal excitement and energy, and some chattering of teeth!

With the Carneddau and Glyderau peaks forming a dramatic skyline to their right, runners set off against this new inspiring start-line backdrop in the heart of Anglesey, known as the Mother of Wales.

Leaving the Showground, a short out-and-back set the route heading west along the A5, allowing runners to quickly find their rhythm on a wide, fully closed road. The opening miles felt open and confident, leading to long sightlines and sweeping views across rural Anglesey.

Ras Y Ddraig

The Dragon’s Dash once again brought a fantastic burst of energy to the Anglesey Showground, as young runners from across North Wales took on their own race-day challenge. Set against the stunning backdrop of Ynys Môn, the closed-road course gave children the chance to experience the same start-line excitement and finish-line pride as the main event participants.

With families, friends and local supporters cheering them every step of the way, the atmosphere was full of encouragement and community spirit. The Dragon’s Dash is always a special moment in the event weekend, celebrating confidence, courage and the growing generation of runners here in North Wales.
