Cardiff 2025 Standard (World Championship Qualifier)

The Cardiff Triathlon has been awarded the Standard Distance Triathlon World Championship Qualifier.

This will be your chance to prove yourself in the shadow of the Wales Millennium Centre and gain your place on the GB Age-Group Team for the 2026 Standard Distance Triathlon World Championship.

This race is open to all British Triathlon Members. In order to qualify for the Championship race, athletes must register their intent to qualify by 5pm on the Friday before the qualifying race (20th June 2025). Please click here to register your intent to qualify

Entering this race also qualifies you for the Welsh Triathlon Super Series, if you are a member of Welsh Triathlon and enter by the Sunday preceding the race.

Route Description

Start your race with the exclusive opportunity to swim in Cardiff Bay. Cardiff Bay is supplied by two rivers to form a 500-acre (2.0 km²) freshwater lake around the former dockland area south of the city centre. You will swim across the bay to the bottom of transition.

Your bike route is TBC, but will heading out of transition under the shadow of the Wales Millennium Centre and be a lapped course on the flat roads around Cardiff Bay area.

The run is a fast two loops of an out and back run route, showing off the sights of Cardiff Bay along the way. Heading out of transition first towards the Norwegian church and along the cycle path, taking in the sites of industrial heritage that Cardiff is so renowned for. The route is flat and fast especially as you run along the Barrage. The route back gives you views of the Pierhead Building, the Wales Millennium Centre, the Senedd and you’ll have plenty to keep you motivated as you go for that place on the podium and at the World Championships! Once you get to the Senedd Building it's time for your sprint finish; along Bute Place, around the corner and into the finish line in front of the Wales Millennium Centre.

Important Information

Minimum Age

In line with British Triathlon rules you must be at least 17 years old to take part in this race.

Registration

Registration will take place on Saturday afternoon and also before the race on Sunday morning - we will confirm specific times in your Final Instructions, which will be available on the website and via email 10 days prior to the race.

Registration is usually located on the Plass outside the Wales Millennium Centre CF10 5AL.

Wave Start Times

The provisional start time (wave 1) is 07:00. Waves are allocated by age group. Confirmed timings will be detailed in your Final Instructions which will be available on the website and via email 10 days prior to your race.

Waves are allocated using the estimated finish time on your entry.

Details of your wave will be emailed to you along with the Final Instructions.

Transition

Transition opens early on the morning of the event and will close approximately 30 minutes before the first wave starts. You may not enter transition for any reason after the allocated time. Confirmed timings will be detailed in your Final Instructions which will be available on the website and via email 10 days prior to your race.

Transition will only be open for racking on the day of the event. It is not possible to leave your bike overnight.

Equipment left in Transition after it closes will be removed and its security cannot be guaranteed.

Cut Off Times

In the interest of athlete safety and the safety of our volunteers on the course, there will be strict cut-off times in place.

You have a total of 55 minutes to complete your swim.

You have a total of 2 hours to complete your bike - you must be clear of the bike course no later than 3 hours and 30 minutes after the first wave starts.

You have a total of 1 hour and 20 minutes to complete your run.

Timings are subject to change. Confirmed timings will be detailed in your final instructions. These are emailed to athletes 10 days prior to the race, and they’ll also be available 10 days prior to the race on our website.
