Snowman Triathlon 2026 Delivers Epic Racing in True Snowman Conditions

The Snowman Triathlon returned this weekend for its 2026 edition and, after months of dry, sunny weather, it certainly lived up to its reputation by bringing wet and windy conditions. The ever-changing weather only added to the dramatic backdrop of Eryri's stunning mountains, creating the true Snowman experience. This year, we were also proud to support the Mountain Adventure Fund, our official headline charity partner.

The day began with the Legend Triathlon, as athletes took to the waters of Llynnau Mymbyr, which measured a surprisingly warm 20.1°C on race morning. Throughout the day, competitors also tackled the Standard Triathlon, Aquabike, which hosted the Welsh National Championships – the Sprint Triathlon, Sprint Duathlon, and two open water swim events: a 1500m Swim and the challenging 2.4 Mile Swim.

While the rain and wind remained for much of the day, the welcoming atmosphere at Plas y Brenin, the National Mountain Centre, ensured competitors and spectators alike enjoyed the event. The venue provided plenty of shelter, hot food and drinks, and spectacular views across the lake and mountains, allowing supporters to cheer on athletes as they took on one of the UK's most iconic triathlon courses.

Grit, Glory, and Triumph: 2025 Snowman Triathlon & Duathlon Delivers a Brutal and Brilliant 14th Edition.

The 14th edition of the Snowman Triathlon & Duathlon began under damp and drizzly skies, with the promise of clearer weather later in the day. The Legend athletes were first to take to the start line at 7:00 AM, followed by the Standard distance competitors at 8:00 AM, and finally the Sprint Triathletes and Duathletes at 9:00 AM. True to forecast, the skies began to clear around 10:30 AM, offering more comfortable conditions for the athletes. It was a fantastic day of racing at what is widely regarded as the UK’s toughest triathlon and duathlon event—made even more demanding by the early weather. Despite the challenges, there were some truly outstanding performances across all categories, as highlighted in the results below.

The winds were strong and the skies grey, but racers were ready to take on the course, producing some great racing in 2023!

The long-awaited return to racing, our first event back- The Snowman Triathlon

Over 600 triathletes turned out over this weekend for the 2021 Snowman Triathlon at Plas y Brenin in Capel Curig. The Snowman was the first event back in our long-awaited return, with our remaining 2021 events now following until the end of the year.

Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th July saw a record number of competitors descend on the national mountain sports centre at Plas y Brenin, Capel Curig to take on what is quite possibly the toughest standard and half iron distance race in the country - the Snowman Triathlon.
