12th Annual Tour de Môn: A Stunning Success – The Return of the Flying Mile
This weekend, we proudly celebrated the 12th edition of our spectacular cycle sportive, the Tour de Môn.
We were thrilled to welcome 1,000 riders who took on one of three challenging routes: the 107-mile Mawr, the 77-mile Canol, and the 46-mile Bach. Each route offered a breathtaking circumnavigation of Anglesey’s beautiful coastline, showcasing iconic sights such as the Menai Suspension Bridge, the charming village of Beaumaris, the historic Melin Llynnon (home of the famous Mônuts), and the stunning Trearddur Bay, before finishing back at Newry Green, Holyhead.
All cyclists were set off with a warm and spirited welcome from Holyhead’s Town Crier, Geoff Evans, whose ringing voice and lively presence added a touch of tradition and ceremony to the start line. His enthusiasm set the perfect tone for an unforgettable day on the road.
The weather was absolutely perfect for a day of cycling, with dry, sunny skies from start to finish—with a headwind toward the end of the day.
We were delighted to bring back the Flying Mile this year, and we owe a huge thank you to RAF Valley for granting us the use of their runway. Some outstanding times were recorded, with Sarah Murray of Clwb Engi taking the women’s title in 2:16:12, and Joe Watkins leading the men with a fantastic time of 1:59:54.
The day began in style, as Geoff Evans, Holyhead’s Town Crier, joined forces with the Mayor of Holyhead, Cllr. Cadi Evanson, to officially set the riders on their way. Their presence brought a special sense of tradition and community spirit to the event, making the start line even more memorable.
Alongside the main rides, we also hosted the much-loved Tour de Teulu for children. It was truly heartwarming to see so many young riders taking on the 3.5-mile coastal route in Holyhead. As always, the Ynys Môn Celts basketball team generously volunteered their time, ensuring the children had a safe and memorable experience.
The event village was alive with energy all afternoon. Riders and spectators alike enjoyed delicious treats from local food vendors, including Pizza Llan, Brewista, and Môn Ice, with their brand-new hut along the promenade.
Congratulations to everyone who completed one of the three routes! You can find all ride times and event photos by following the links below.
Finally, an enormous thank you goes out to our dedicated marshals and volunteers—these events simply wouldn’t be possible without your support.
