Slateman 2024 Triathlon Legend (70.3)

Legend Triathlons are our ultimate long-distance races. Often referred to as '70.3', 'Middle Distance' or 'half ironman' distance, our Legend series deliver much more than just miles, they cover some of the most beautiful and challenging terrain that North Wales has to offer.
The Slateman Legend Triathlon is the first in the Adventure Championships series, and can be enjoyed on its own, or as part of the trio of North Wales Triathlons. Starting and finishing in the iconic mountain town of Llanberis, you will be immersed in the beauty and history of Eryri (Snowdonia) and Dinorwig Slate Quarries, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Routes

Route Description
The Legend cycle route takes in some of the most iconic views in North Wales beginning with a swim in Llyn Padarn in the shadow of Snowdon surrounded by the history of Slate Mining in the Welsh hills.
Begin the cycle by climbing up the famous Llanberis Pass to Pen y Pass alongside Snowdon, before turning left and heading towards Capel Curig, the home of the Plas y Brenin Mountain Centre. Passing Llyn Mymbyr and Moel Siabod the views on this section are not to be missed! At Capel Curig you’ll turn left again and cycle towards Bethesda going through the mountainous paradise of the Ogwen Valley. You pass many of Wales' most famous and iconic peaks; Tryfan, Glyder Fach and Fawr and the start of the Carneddau mountain range. Before getting into Bethesda proper, you’ll turn left towards Tregarth and make your way along the less hilly, but still challenging lower flanks. At this point the route joins the Standard triathlon route and you will turn right towards Caernarfon. As you flow around the course towards Beddgelert make sure you keep an eye out on your left because you’re circumnavigating Snowdon! Once you’re through the beautiful, quaint village of Beddgelert, you’ve got one last challenge to come. You must now cycle up the narrow and winding Nant Gwynant Pass and return to the top of Pen y Pass. Make sure you take in some of the most spectacular views in the country, before you descent all the way back to Llanberis and transition.
The Slateman Legend run is two laps of the Standard distance run. The run starts off relatively easy but no less beautiful than the rest of the route taking in the historic Dolbadarn Castle, but as you run past Llyn Peris at the foot of the Dinorwic Slate Quarry, don’t lose your nerve when you see what is to come. A 2km climb up the zig zags through the quarry takes your legs and your breath away, especially when you look around at where you are. Carrying on through this most awesome man-made landscape for another 1.5km you then come to the descent into the forest. Heading then towards Fachwen and a short section of road, followed by a steep descent once more into the trees. You will then make your way along the beautiful trails of Parc Padarn and past the Old Quarry Hospital as you make your descent down to the lap point to do it all again! Once you get to the final straight to the finish line, you will, by now, have some idea of what it means to call yourself a Slateman Legend.
